How can I clean my home in Autumn?

As the days get shorter and colder, don’t forget that the change of season has an impact inside your home as well as outside. We have three useful tips to help keep your carpets clean at this time of year.

Use a doormat and take off your shoes

Autumn creates a lot of dirt, mud and dead leaves that you don’t want in your home, and prevention is always a good strategy! If you take off your shoes at the door you won’t bring any of this stuff into your home under foot, where it can be trodden deep into your carpets where vacuum cleaners can’t reach it. Apparently, as much as 80% of unwanted dirt in the home gets there via people’s shoes, so a doormat is also a good investment if you don’t have one. It will improve the look of your entrance and reduce the risk of dangerous slip hazards occurring if you have any hard flooring in that part of the house.

Try to maintain good ventilation

There’s no way round it if you like to keep warm, but when you close your windows and turn up the heating, you create just the right atmosphere for bacterial growth, including mould. This can be a health problem even if you don’t suffer from allergies, so if you can’t stand having the windows open then getting a dehumidifier will really help to keep your home in good shape.

Have your carpets professionally cleaned

Of course we’re biased, but manufacturers recommend that carpets are professionally cleaned at least once a year, and with the type of conditions this seasonal change brings, Autumn is a great time to do it. At Cleaning Pro we normally use the Hot Water Extraction method, which offers an unparalleled deep clean.

When you get the carpets in a home or business cleaned you not only want the method used to be safe, but environmentally friendly, too. By using HWE we avoid exposing you to the chemicals that other carpet cleaning techniques expose you to. The truck-mounted system cleans deep into the pile, completely rinsing out the cleaning solution used to remove unwanted dust, debris and bacteria from your carpets. This technique also leaves carpets dry in no time at all, so you don’t have to spend a day trying to keep your home ventilated to avoid that terrible damp smell you get when clothes aren’t dried properly!
